Kevin and I took Matthew, Phoebe and Beatrix to Rancho Day this past weekend. Rancho Day is tons of fun. It's held at a local Adobe Mission. The Adobe Mission site has history stretching back to native Ohlone indians, Spanish explorers and monks, and Mexican settlers/ soldiers. It even served as hotel/speakeasy back during the prohibition in the 1920's. Everyone has a chance to tour the Adobe/Museum and do things like make candles, grind your own corn, make your own adobe bricks, churn butter, make corn husk dolls, make rope, create a leather stamp necklaces, etc. We had a great time. Phoebe got bored of candle making really quickly and ended up with the most pathetic looking pencil of a candle. Matty really got into the candle making and we had to practically drag him away from the candle station.

The leather stamping was a big hit. Phoebe wielded her hammer with deadly accuracy. It's nice to know she has a bright future as a leather stamper ahead of her.

The adobe bricks were interesting but Matthew was freaked out about having to actually touch the mud. He scooped out one finger full at a time. It was so funny. My cutie tootie mini Monk. Phoebe clumped the mud together with both hands. We made her a perfect brick but when I turned to wash my hands she picked up the brick and threw it right back into the mud pit. Whoops.

All in all, it was a blast. Lots of fun with an educational slant. What Mom could ask for anything more?
