Memorial Day

Memorial Day was seriously awesome. We spent the day at one of my favorite places in the whole world. Lots of tall gorgeous redwood trees, hiking, food and just hanging out all together. The most fun and relaxing day I can think of off the top of my head.

The kids went crazy with glee. Phoebe made friends right off the bat and everyone knew her name within five minutes. Matthew declared the forrest to be the Ewok forrest and the boys spent most of their time climbing felled redwood trees and playing Star Wars pretend. Beatrix loved being able to explore. She wanted me to lift her on and off trees pretty much nonstop. Her favorite part was finding a hollow redwood tree that she could explore.

My Mom met us there which made things extra fun. My sister also joined us along with her new boyfriend. He seems like a nice guy and I liked him quite a bit..... although my sister did seem a bit wary of letting any of us alone with him. I think she was afraid we'd throw down some sort of gauntlet if she let him out of her sight. Quiz him on his knowledge of the Bible or make him sacrifice a chicken as some sort of initiation.

When we first got there it was freezing. We knew it would probably be cold so we dressed in lots of layers. Even so we had to start up a fire at our campsite. The cold didn't seem to phase the kids after the first half hour and after a couple hours the sun did come out and warm us all up. But it was still too cold to let the kids go swimming at the water hole.

Our day trip went so well we've decided we're going to go camping down there sometime this summer. I think the kids are going to love it and I'm insanely excited about it.
